Richard Nevins: Chief Barker
Chief Barker / Chairperson
Richard
is a long standing Variety Queensland member and supporter. He first
joined Variety Queensland as a Bash entrant in 1991 and has since
participated in numerous events either as an entrant, official,
entertainer or organiser. Richard has previously served on the Variety
Queensland Board of Management as Entertainment Director and was a key
figure in the establishment of the Gold Coast crew. Richard is the
Director of a marine transport and maintenance company, however now
mostly retired, he seeks to dedicate more of his time, energy and
resources to Variety Queensland.

Richard Hunwick
Vice Chair
Richard
brings a wealth of experience in marketing and advertising to Variety
Queensland. He is currently Network Ten’s Queensland State Sales
Manager and has had an extensive career in media and sales. Richard has
been a member of Variety’s Committee of Management since February 2006.

Ian Mackay
Treasurer
Ian
is currently a non executive Director of ASX listed Manaccom
Corporation Limited. Ian qualified as a Public Accountant in 1975 and
held senior management positions in the fledgling micro and personal
computer industry before establishing Manaccom as a mail order software
business. |

Patrick Spranklin
Secretary
Patrick
has been the Association’s secretary since December 2004. He has had a
strong involvement in community groups, schools, sporting clubs,
service clubs and numerous incorporated associations at state and
national levels for over 35 years, and has had a lifetime involvement
with hearing/ speech impaired and disabled persons. He became a XXXX
Variety Bash Legend in 2004 having completed 10 Bashes raising money
for Variety Queensland.

Dr Paul Shumack
Appeals and Grants Chair
Paul
is the Managing Director of Australasian Aero Medical Specialist
Services. His qualifications include MBBS, PhD, FACOMRACP, MRAeS,
Specialist Physician. He is a Group Captain in the RAAF Reserves. Paul
has participated in many Variety events, donating his time as Chief
Medical Officer. Paul has been a Management Committee Member since the
late nineties and is currently the Appeals Chairman as well as being
the Honorary Medical Officer.

Peter Ffrench
Marketing & Strategic Planning Chair
Peter
is a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, a Graduate of the
Australian Institute of Company Directors and has post graduate
business qualifications from QUT. He joined the Committee of Management
in May 2007 and chairs the Marketing and Strategic Planning portfolio.
Peter has over 20 years experience as a senior executive in leading
national corporations, primarily in marketing, sales, communication and
organisational development.

David Gwynne-Jones
Retail Merchandising Chair
David,
a sales and marketing consultant, gained vast experience working as the
director of an advertising agency in the Middle East and has worked in
media and advertising in the UK. Dai currently works in a marketing and
management consultancy, licensing, promotional marketing, fundraising
and sales strategy.

Steve Wakerley
Bash Chair
Steve
has been Chairman of the XXXX Gold Variety Bash since 2007. He started
'Bashing' in 2001 and has raised in excess of $400,000 through his team
'The Keystone Cops' including being the highest fundraiser in the 2007
Variety Bash having raised $126,000 that year. Steve is a Sergeant of
Police at Ferny Grove Police Station on Brisbane's northside and has
two young children Jacob & Grace who are well known to the the
Variety family.

Les Riley
Chief Executive Officer
Les
has been associated with Variety Queensland since 1996 when as Managing
Director of Channel Seven he arranged television sponsorship for
Variety’s motoring events. Les joined the Committee of Management in
2001 becoming Treasurer as well as instigating and becoming Chairman of
the Variety Executive Golf Series event. Les also served as the Chief
Barker for Variety Queensland from November 2006 to November 2008, when
he was appointed Chief Executive Officer for the charity.
